About Us

The Northfielders’ Garden Club was founded October 17, 1939 in Northfield, Illinois and joined Garden Clubs of Illinois in 1940.

The purpose of the club is to foster good gardening
in its broadest sense.

HOW WE CONTRIBUTE
TO OUR COMMUNITY

Our Northfielders’ Garden Club has a long-standing tradition of contributing to the community through our commitment to a variety of ongoing civic projects.
Club members provide indoor arrangements for the Northfield Public Library.
Members plant and maintain seasonal outdoor containers at various civic institutions.
Every spring, annuals are planted throughout the village and bulbs every fall.  Members also weed many beds in the village.
We share these responsibilities with our fellow Northfield Garden Club.

BUILDING COMMUNITY SPIRIT

Our Northfielders’ Garden Club is part of a wonderful small community where generations choose to return to live near their families. Those families carry on the tradition of membership in the garden club. Other members benefit from the history and enjoy the friendships they develop.
Gardening and floral design are a common interests that bring the club together. The members gain knowledge and build friendships through this common bond. If you have an interest in building community spirit, please contact us. via email with your contact information and the membership chair will respond with information.

Flowers for Teachers

Flowers for Teachers is a popular September meeting activity where members bring flowers harvested from their gardens or purchased to make arrangements to distribute to the District 29 staff members. This is another activity to build community spirit. The members enjoy the camraderie while assembling beautiful arrangements to show appreciation for all that the teachers and staff do for the education of our community. The arrangements bring color and joy to the classrooms and homes of the staff and may even be educational to the students.

Inspiration Park

Inspiration Park has been a part of Northfield for almost 50 years. This park is a triangular park just south of the Village Hall on Happ Road.  In 1968 the Club decided to donate an in-ground fountain for this park to make a contribution in line with their goal of beautifying our community. The fountain was beautiful and the sound of water screened the noise from adjoining roads. It proved difficult to maintain however and was later filled with dirt and planted with a small tree and flowers.

In 2006 our club contributed to the efforts of the Country Gardeners to renovate this space. Plant material was replaced and new benches, picnic tables and large stone flower pots were purchased. The space was given its official name Inspiration Park!

Much effort went into the maintenance of this wonderful park but in 2011 it required an overhaul once again. Public Works, the Country Gardeners and our club all contributed to this effort. The summer of 2020 Country Gardeners worked more magic and added new plantings at the south end. We thank them and  invite you to visit

The Daffodil Show

Every three years, a member volunteers their residence to host the Daffodil Show. The club plants a large variety of daffodil bulbs at the host's home in the fall prior to the show. Bulbs are also available for members to plant in their own gardens to use in their floral design to display at the show. The show is open to the community and is quite the display of creative daffodil arrangements.

Northfield Library

This bed at the Northfield Library was magically transformed into a vibrant garden by members of the club.

Flowers are also provided for the front desk at the library by club members.
